چکیده

The friction and wear behaviour of ZrO*-Y203, Zr02-Y203--Ce02 and ZrQ--A1203 composite ceramics against hardened steel AISI-52100 were investigated using a pin on plate configuration under reciprocating motion. The reproducibility of the results was examined in this configuration. Wear characteristics were separated into system and material contributions. Under the conditions used, all the ceramic components exhibited rather low wear rates (less than 10m6 mm3 N’ m‘). The frictional behaviour of ceramic-metal couples depended on a metallic layer transferred from the steel plate to the ceramic pin. A relation was determined between surface hardness and friction of ceramic-metal pairs. It was shown that the affinity for the transfer of the metal towards ceramic surfaces depended on the physical properties of the materials. In the tribosystems investigated, the effect of the hardness of the ceramics on friction and wear behaviour is found to be more important than that of toughness of the ceramics.

Friction and Wear Behaviors of Gear Steel under Coupling of Rolling and Sliding

In this paper, the gear material 20CrMnTi was selected as the research object. Friction and wear behavior was performed on the M2000 friction and abrasion tester. The friction and wear mechanisms of 20CrMnTi steel were discussed under coupling of rolling and sliding. The results show that damage of steel-steel couples under coupling of rolling and sliding is caused by the interaction of mechani...

Influence of Workpiece Material on Tool Wear Performance and Tribofilm Formation in Machining Hardened Steel

In addition to the bulk properties of a workpiece material, characteristics of the tribofilms formed as a result of workpiece material mass transfer to the friction surface play a significant role in friction control. This is especially true in cutting of hardened materials, where it is very difficult to use liquid based lubricants. To better understand wear performance and the formation of ben...

Sliding Wear of TiN coated 321 stainless steel in CO2 at 300 and 500°C

Advanced carbon dioxide-cooled nuclear reactor environments can be tribologically hostile, with steel components sliding in contact at high temperatures. Although wearprotective oxides can reduce damage in the steady-state conditions, severe wear can occur in the early stages, particularly at temperatures of 300 to 500 "C, where oxidation rates may be low. In this paper, results are presented o...

Tribological behaviour of different diamond-like carbon materials

This paper comparatively studies the tribological behaviour of different types of diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings in a reciprocating sliding wear test. The results are interpreted in terms of structure and surface morphological characteristics. At the beginning of each reciprocating sliding wear test, the higher coefficient of friction of the DLC coatings reflects the original surface condit...

Sliding Wear Behaviour of Walnut Shell Powder Filled Vinyl Ester/ WSP Green Composites

Polyvinyl ester green composites were synthesized with walnut shell powder (WSP) by in-situ polymerization technique. The green composites have been evaluated for mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tensile modulus and hardness. Sliding wear loss, specific wear rate and coefficient of friction were investigated by using computerized pin-on–disc machine at normal applied loads of 20,...
